When these Words entered my life I no longer had the need for things to impact me. I had been jolted, impinged, and slammed on enough. What makes the Bible different from all other literature is an innate, sentient ability to differentiate each persons needs. At a certain point I needed actual help, not the faithless preaching of the pious. Gentle counsels taught me about life and how I should conduct myself. “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul (Ps. 19:7)…” That’s what it did for me; my soul was converted. Not only did the Bible know how to reach me, because it is actually living, but it answered all my questions. In doing so, it proved it’s own relevance, undoing the static dogma of the Catholic church, which had done me much harm by desensitizing me to religion.

You Are A Writer (so start ACTING like one)

This book by Jeff Goins entered my life in a very clever way. I found it during a tree removal in a Little Free Library in Clayton, a suburb of St. Louis. It is a diminutive tome. A skinny, light blue spine some how attracted me like a neon sign. Fate intervened that day to remind me of my dormant gift, while directing me into the next chapter of life. The moment held me captive. I knew I was supposed to be right there, holding that book, pondering the travesty of my pen’s silence. This book was literally a Godsend. Jarring me into a state of actively writing, it has also given me a blueprint that I can build from. Needless to say I am very grateful for this book.

The book I currently own, which is sitting in my desk as I write this, is actually not the original but a second copy. My resistance to the pursuit of my own writing has been so staunch, that during one of my rebellion’s, I threw the first book away. As you can see writing has been a war of attrition. But I will win.

Whenever I read a book by P.G. Wodehouse it feels like my brain has been massaged. I find his style to be wonderfully lyrical and easy to read. Many ticks could be spent eulogizing this along with all of his other books. But I will be brief so that my gentle readers can get a sense of the soothing, Wodehouse ease.
